The model

This is the Revell Bf109G-4 built to represent Gunther Rall's G-2.  I built the kit pretty much out of the box except for the wheels which were donated from a fellow Hyperscaler as well as the Aeromaster decals (Early 109 Aces)  and seat belts which are made from lead foil.

The only changes I made to the kit were some minor filling and removal of  the boot off the tail wheel to make it closer to the G-2 style wheel. I painted the aircraft using Gunze and Tamiya acrylics.  The panel lines were preshaded, followed by the RLM 76 for the underside and  lower fuselage, and RLM 74 and 75 upper wings and fuselage.  I used the Aeromaster decal instructions as a painting guide.  Using some of the RLM 76, I mixed it with the RLM 74 and 75 to give the panels a faded look.  I feel highlighting the panels in this manner gives it a more realistic weathered appearance.  When the decals were on, I matte coated using a mixture of Pascoe's Long Life and Tamiya Flat Base.  This gave the model a very matte look.   As for final weathering I used pastels and silver pencil. The antennae is made from invisible thread.

Final Notes

This was the first 1:32 scale kit I had a go at building and I enjoyed working with the larger scale.  I hope to acquire the Dora soon.
