Due parole per presentarti, per dire cosa fai nella vita e per dire
i tuoi pregi.........ed i tuoi difetti
Nella vita faccio il Maresciallo Specialista
d'Elicottero della Guardia di Finanza, un lavoro che
amo moltissimo, trascorro tutto il mio tempo libero in
famiglia, al tavolo modellistico, con gli amici e
nella ricerca di fatti, foto, eventi che hanno
riguardato la Regia Aeronautica, utili per i miei
libri e per puro interesse personale. Sinceramente
credo di avere un buon carattere, aperto e leale,
tendente al generoso, tranne quando mi pestano i
piedi, apertamente o no, allora esce un lato oscuro
del mio carattere che non piace neanche al
sottoscritto. Mi piace essere franco, dire quello che
penso, secondo me è una buona base di partenza per
l'amicizia, l'amore e una serie infinita di rapporti
umani..Infine il tempo libero, con tutti gli interessi
che ho, non mi basta affatto.
Il volo, il modellismo: chi ha acceso la passione verso l'altro?
Mio padre, appassionato in maniera moderata di 2^ G.M.
nei suoi eventi, mezzi, uomini e fatti. Da bambino, a
6 anni, amavo giocare con Lorenzo, un bambino disabile
che mi fece scoprire, con un Me 262 in 1/72, quanto
potessero essere "grandi" e leggeri i modelli in
plastica. Prima di allora avevo modelli Polistil in
pesantissimo ferro purtroppo a reazione!!
Scala preferita?
1/48 e 1/32
Periodo preferito?
2^ G.M., velivoli da caccia italiani e tedeschi
Forza aerea preferita?
Regia Aeronautica..se si può chiamare "Forza" !!!!
Perchè?
Perché ammiro da sempre la bravura e la tenacia con
cui quei coraggiosissimi uomini affrontarono una
guerra così dura e spietata in evidenti condizioni di
inferiorità di mezzi e organizzazione. Con i velivoli
ed il numero di altri belligeranti, forse gli uomini
della Regia sarebbero stati ricordati diversamente.
Cosa ti piace fare quando fai un modello e cosa odi fare quando fai
un modello?
Mi piace terribilmente verniciare, ad aerografo e
pennello, amo la fase finale di rifinitura, decals
dettaglio, oltre alla modifica, dettaglio e
autocostruzione di pezzi. Non mi piace assolutamente
stuccare, carteggiare, lisciare e reincidere.
Quanto impieghi per costruire un modello?
Dalle due settimane ai 6 mesi, a seconda del grado di
difficoltà del kit.
Quanto piacciono i concorsi a Maurizio Di Terlizzi?
Molto, ma non muoio se non vi partecipo.
Ed i club?
Non mi piacciono affatto. Ho avuto in gioventù
esperienze negative, e da 10 anni a questa parte
preferisco fare il solitario.. con un sacco di amici.
Sono certo che si impara e ci si diverte più davanti
ad una pizza con tanti amici a parlare SOLO ed
ESCLUSIVAMENTE di modelli, che a stare in un club
legalmente costituito con cariche direttive e
gerarchie..buone solo per allontanare coloro che
desiderano iscriversi e impoverire quelli che già lo
sono. Intendiamoci, questa è una opinione del tutto
personale e non si adatta a tutti quei club che
funzionano bene e che costituiscono un ottimo punto di
riferimento per giovani alle prime armi e per chi è
già navigato.

No, ho fatto un sottomarino e una autovettura.
Hai viaggiato molto?
Si, in Europa ho visitato quasi tutti i Musei Aeronautici, in viaggio
di piacere e per servizio. Ho ricavato ottime impressioni e spunti per
meglio valutare quello che abbiamo qui, sia a proposito di Musei che
di manifestazioni modellistiche.
So che hai fatto concorsi all'estero, principali differenze tra la
maniera italiana di concepire il modellismo e quella in cui ti sei imbattuto
all'estero?
Ho avuto la fortuna di partecipare e vincere mostre
meravigliose come Telford in UK o il Mondial de la
Miniature a Parigi, oppure di fare il giudice a
Valencia, Spagna. Sono mostre organizzate da
professionisti del modellismo, nessun dettaglio è
lasciato al caso, l'iscrizione costa come un panino, o
al massimo come una pizza. Non ci sono Maestri
Organizzatori che poi ti chiedono una fortuna per
l'iscrizione, la Mostra non è una occasione per
vendicarsi di torti subiti o tantomeno per sventolare
una etichetta di Grandiosità assolutamente vuota
dentro. Per carità, non antepongo l'estero all'Italia,
dove mostre come Adriakit, The Knights, Novegro o
Vicenza, ti fanno sentire contento e felice del tuo
Hobby. Infine, nei concorsi all'estero vige ancora il
principio della Simbolicità, i premi sono miseri e
numerosissimi, ma dal grande valore simbolico.
Mettendo da parte la diplomazia: sarebbe d'obbligo più umiltà
tra i modellisti tricolore?
Io penso che l'importante sia FARE modelli, belli o
brutti NON HA NESSUN SIGNIFICATO, non pontificare a destra e a manca.
Vi sono persone che sanno tutto di
tutto, parlerebbero di consigli per ore, sono i primi
a criticare i tuoi modelli, ma a casa hanno la bacheca
VUOTA!!!
Il modellismo sta veramente estinguendosi o è solo un malore
passeggero? Sta estinguendosi solo in Italia?
No, purtroppo l'Italia è la culla dei telefonini, delle Play
Station, degli occhiali firmati e del giubbotto di marca. I giovani
spendono 420 Euro per l'ultimo NOKIA, ma ti danno del pazzo se gli proponi
l'acquisto di un libro che costa 20 volte di meno !!!
Sarebbe opportuno costruire più musei ed indire più
manifestazioni aeree nella penisola?
I musei in Italia dovrebbero prendere spunto da quelli
Inglesi soprattutto, dove l'entrata si PAGA, e sulle
ali dei velivoli si potrebbe mangiare !! Le
manifestazioni aeree, come per i Musei, avrebbero
bisogno di SOLDI e PASSIONE, e di meno "Statalità".
Come si può dire ."ma questo museo è brutto e tenuto
male !!" quando poi la risposta potrebbe essere
"beh..con quello che hai speso.!?!" (niente !!).
Saresti disposto a sostenere una campagna per adesioni di sottoscrizioni
ai pochissimi musei di aviazione italiani?
NO
Quanta importanza hanno per Maurizio Di Terlizzi le associazioni
per il recupero ed il restauro dei velivoli storici?

Mi piace Cesare Pigliapoco
Un modellista italiano che stimi?
Mi piacciono molto i modelli di Cesare Pigliapoco come
italiano. Nicolas Poncini come
straniero.

Un Messerschmitt Bf 109 E della Revell in 1/72, nel

Nessuno, hanno tutti qualcosa di piacevole.
Quante scatole hai nell'armadio?
Può sembrare strano ma ne ho solo 37.
Hai mai preso ultimamente un modello tra le dita e lo hai fatto volare,
casomai simulando una bella mitragliata?
Si, pochi giorni fa, un Tempest in 1/48. C'è sempre un
bambino in noi, specie se "mitragli" per tuo figlio.
Lo rifaresti?
Si,
senza vergogna.
Modellismo: hobby da "ricchi" o accessibile anche a chi
non ha molto da spendere?
Accessibile a tutti, non serve comprare centinaia di
scatole costosissime. Il modellismo è anche comprare
dei "bargain kit" per pochi euro ad una svendita e
tirarci fuori un capolavoro.
Quanto è importante per Maurizio Di Terlizzi in un progetto
modellistico la documentazione storica?
Tantissimo, la fase di studio e acquisizione storica
precede il montaggio del modello.
Quanto l'abilità manuale?
Abbastanza ma non troppo, con le pinzette e tutti gli
utensili che esistono, anche "Shrek" potrebbe
dettagliare un P-40!!
Con l'abilità si può sopperire a carenze di documentazione
nella realizzazione di un modello?
No, la documentazione, anche se minima, evita errori
grossolani che a volte le Ditte, anche le più quotate,
potrebbero commettere.
Con una perfetta documentazione si può sopperire alla mancanza
di abilità?
Si, perchè ti "fomenta" per tutta la durata del modello.
Smalti o acrilici?
Acrilici.
Pro o contro il pre-shading?
Contro.
Possiedi libri della Osprey Aviation?
Si, moltissimi!!!
Quanto ti sono stati utili?
Li trovo completi sia dal punto di vista storico che dalla qualità
e quantità di immagini, spesso inedite.
Quale aereo vorresti per Natale?
Ho chiesto a Babbo Natale di scegliere: o un Savoia
Marchetti Sm.79 1/48 della Tamiya o un Macchi
C.202/205 in 1/32 della Hasegawa.
Progetti sul tavolo?
Un Airacobra Italiano, una Golf (la mia) e presto.un
'109 in 1/32 !!
A modello finito prometti due foto per WS?
Certamente.
Trovi interessante WS? Cosa miglioreresti? Come vorresti vedere più
spesso?
Lo trovo molto interessante, non cambierei nulla di
quest'ultima veste grafica (forse le scritte ed i
pulsanti un po' più grandi).

Which period you'd like to live in and where?
1938-1943 Rome
Two words to introduce yourself, to tell what you do in your life and
to tell your qualities.....and your flaws
In my life I am Maresciallo Specialista of Elicopters for Guardia di
Finanza, a work that I love so much, I spend all my free time with my
family, at my workbench, with friends and searching facts, images and
events regarding the Regia Aeronautica, useful for my books and for
pure personal interest. Sincerely I believe to have a good character,
open and loyal, with a good tendency to generosity, except when someone
"stamp on my feet", openly or not, in this case get out the
dark side of my soul that myself also don't like. I like to be loyal,
telling hat I think, for me it is a good starting point for friendship,
love and all the human behaviors... Ending my free time is not enough,
concerning all the interests I have.
The flight, modelling: which
of one fired the passion toward the other?
My father, moderately enthusiast about events, weapons, men and
facts of the WW II. When I was 6 years old, I loved to play with Lorenzo,
an handicapped child that made me discover with a Me 262 in 1/72 scale,
how could be "great" and light the plastic kits. Till that
day I only have had Polistil models in heavy metal and unfortunately
only jets!!
Preferred scale?
1/48 and 1/32
Preferred period?
WW II, Italian and German fighters
Preferred Air Force?
Regia Aeronautica.. If we can call it "Force" !!!!
Why?
Because I admire all times the courage and the tenacity of that very
brave men that fought an hard and cruel war in obvious conditions of
inferiority regarding weapons and organization. With the machines and
the number of men of other belligerents, I think that the men of the
should have been remembered in other way.
What you like to do making a model and what you hate to do making a
model?
I like awfully to paint, airbrush or hand brush, I love the final touches
in finishing, decals, to detail and obviously modify, detail and scratchbuild
some pieces. I don't like to use putty, to sand and to engrave.
How many time do you need to build
a model?
From two weeks to 6 months, depending of the difficult level of the
project.
How much Maurizio Di Terlizzi likes contests?
So much, but it is not vital for me to participate.
And club?
No way. When I was young I had negative experiences, and since 10 years
ago I like to be independent.. with a lot of friends. I am sure that
you can learn a lot and you can have more fun standing in front of a
pizza and talking ONLY about models, instead of spend your time in a
club legally constituted with directive appointments and hierarchies..
things that are good only to push away people that want to subscribe
and to impoverish the ones already subscribed. Well but this is a personal
opinion and it is not to be compared to all that clubs that make a good
work being a good starting point for the beginners and for the advanced.

No, I made only a submarine and a car.
Did you travel a lot?
Yes, in Europe I visited mostly of the Aeronautical Museums, traveling
for pleasure and for work. I have had very good impressions and suggestions
to better value what we have here in Italy, both concerning Museums
and modelling events.
I know that you made contests abroad, the principal differences about
the modelling Italian way and the other?
I was lucky to participate and to win during wonderful events like Telford
in UK or the Mondial de la
Miniature in Paris, or to be judge at Valencia, Spain. These are events
organized by professionals of modelling, every detail is well studied,
the subscription fee it costs like a sandwich or like a pizza. There
are not Masters of Organization asking to you a lot of money to subscribe,
the Event is not an occasion to avenge their selves against old faults
or to show a label of grandness completely empty inside. By the way,
I don't want to put abroad in front of Italy where you can find events
like Adriakit, The Knights, Novegro or Vicenza, making you feel happy
to be a modeller. Finally, during the events abroad is in force the
principle of the symbolism, the prizes are simple, in a large quantity
but with a huge symbolic value.
Putting apart diplomacy: the Italian modellers have to be more humble?
I think that is important to MAKE models, beautiful or not IT DOESN'T
MATTER, it is not necessary to proclaim all around. There are some people
that know everything about everything, that could be able to give advices
to everybody for hours and hours, they are the first one to criticize
your models, but if you go to their houses they have their showcases
EMPTY!!!
Modelling is dying or it is only a passing disease? It's dying
only in Italy?
No, but Italy is the land of mobile telephones, of the Play Station,
of the signed sun glasses or of the "brand of the day" jacket.
Young people spend 420 Euro for the last item of NOKIA, but they tell
you that you suggest to them to buy a book that costs 20 times less!!!
Could be useful to build more museums and make more air shows in
Italy?
The museums in Italy should learn by the English ones where you PAY
an entrance fee, and you can eat (for their cleaning) on the wings of
the aircrafts!! Air shows an museums need more MONEY and PASSION, and
less bureaucracy. Hoe can you say " this museum is ugly and dusty!!!
when the answer could be "you have nothing because you spend nothing!!!".
Could you be available to sustain a subscription campaign for the
few Italian aviation museums?

recover and the restoration of historical aircrafts?

What kind of skill you'd like to steal to another modeller, and which
one?
I like Cesare Pigliapoco

like very much the models made by Cesare Pigliapoco as Italian modeller.

Could sound strange but I have only 37 boxes.
Did you take recently a model in your finger making it fly simulating
some machine gun fire?
Yes, few days ago, a 1/48 Tempest. There's always a child in us, especially
if you "fire" for your son.
Do you did it again?
Yes, with no shame.
Modelling: a hobby for reach people or even reasonable for the guys
with few money in the pocket?
Modelling is for all, it is not necessary to buy hundreds of expensive
kits. Modelling could be to buy a "bargain kit" with few euro
and make it a masterpiece.
How much is important for Maurizio Di Terlizzi the historical documentation
in a modelling project?
A lot, the historical study and acquisition precedes the assembly of
the model.
How much the hand skill?
The right way, but not too much, with the tweezers and all the present
tools, even "Shrek" could make a good detail work on a P-40!!
With a good skill can someone provide to the lack documentation in model
making?
No, the documentation, though minimal, can avoid that big errors sometimes
made by big companies even.
With a perfect documentation can someone provide to the lack of skill?
Yes, because it can sustains your will during the model making.

I find them complete, for the historical point of view, for the quality
and quantity of the images frequently never seen.

I asked Santa to choose between: a 1/48 Savoia
Marchetti Sm.79 made by Tamiya or a 1/32 Macchi
C.202/205 made by Hasegawa.
Projects on the workbench?
AN Italian Airacobra, a Volkswagen Golf (my car) and soon a '109 in
1/32 scale!!
Do you promise to WS few images of your next completed model?
For sure.
Is WS interesting for you? What you'd wish to improve? What you'd
like to see more?
I find it very interesting, I don't think that there's something to
change after the new restyling (but bigger character and bigger buttons
could be better).
