Cosa ti piace fare quando fai un modello e cosa odi fare quando fai un modello?
Mi piace: mettere tutti i pezzi insieme e terminare avendo fatto una replica, così anche per costruzione e pittura. Odio: quando pasticcio il lavoro di pittura dopo tutto lo sforzo che vi ho profuso

Quanto impieghi per costruire un modello?
3-4 volte a settimana nella stanza per modellismo

Quali sono le differenze tra l'essere un modellista ed essere un modellista esperto?
La finitura finale del modello

Quanto piacciono i concorsi a Dale Smith?
Mi piacciono i concorsi fino a quando la giuria giudica il modello in base alle regole della competizione e non in base alle loro supposte conoscenze

Sì mi piacciono poichè puoi stare insieme a gente che condivide il tuo stesso interesse

Qual'è il tuo sport preferito?
Mi piacciono molti sport, ma soprettutto il calcio

Quando eri bambino, giocando con i tuoi amici tu eri il soldato od il pilota?

Esiste per te una scuola di modellismo Australiana o no, è più accurata nella ricerca storica, nel dettaglio o nel dipingere?
Di solito costruisco il mio kit poichè ho fatto ricerche su un aereo, molto raramente straight from the box

Qual'è per te il lato più importante facendo un modello? Pittura, autocostruzione, costruzione, stuccature o altro?
Tutte queste cose assieme

Il modellismo in Italia vacilla, pochi modellisti giovani e lestesse vecchie facce, ma probabilmente è un malanno passeggero che dura da circa 20 anni. E' così anche in Australia o il modellismo è più vitale?
E' quello che sta accadendo qui ed in tutto il resto del mondo. Dobbiamo incoraggiare molto di più i ragazzi più giovani per farli interessare dato che ci sono tante altre cose che i bambini potrebbero fare nel loro tempo libero

Due nomi di modellisti Australiani che ti piacciono?
James Blackwell per i suoi carri tedeschi, Chris Wauchop per i suoi aerei

Sarebbe opportuno costruire più musei di guerra per le nuove generazioni?
Si, ma solo dal punto di vista storico

Quanta importanza hanno per Dale Smith le associazioni per il recupero ed il restauro dei velivoli storici??
Molto importante

L'abilità di Chris Wauchops con l'aerografo

Quello con un assemblaggio cattivo e che non assomiglia all'aereo reale

Modellismo: hobby da "ricchi" o accessibile anche a chi non ha molto da spendere?
Entrambe. Se ti guardi attorno puoi spendere poco, ma se vuoi spendere palate di soldi puoi farlo......

Quanto è importante per Dale Smith in un progetto modellistico la documentazione storica?
Molto importante

Quanto l'abilità manuale?
Come sopra

Con l'abilità si può sopperire a carenze di documentazione nella realizzazione di un modello?
Si

Con una perfetta documentazione si può sopperire alla mancanza di abilità?

Preferisco gli acrilici. Uso per lo più Gunze e Tamiya

Sì, ora sì. Non l'ho usato nel passato

Construzione

Possiedi libri della Osprey Aviation?
Nella mia libreria ho molti libri, ma principalmente 'Osprey', 'Classic Publications' ed anche la serie di libri di Stewart Wilson sugli aerei australiani.

Ti sono stati utili?
Molto utili con foto ed informazioni sull'aereo che voglio modellare

Quali modelli vorresti chiedere a Babbo Natale?
1/48 Bristol Beaufort, ancge un Meteor F8

Progetti sul tavolo?
I progetti per ora sono uno Spitfire Mk XIV in 1/48 della Academy con il set di dettaglio della KMC, ed un F-4J con colori della RAF in occasione del 'Tigermeet' nel 1988 con il cockpit Black Box e decals Yellowhammer

Si, ne arriveranno presto..........

Mainly Allied however also interested in Axis as well

Just my personal preference

What you like to do making a model and what you hate to do making a model?
Enjoy: I enjoy putting all the pieces together and ending up with a replica, as well as the construction and painting. Hate: When I muck up the paintwork after all the effort I've put in

How many time do you need to build a model?
3-4 times a week in the modelling 'den'

What are the differences between being a modeller and an experienced modeller?
The finish of the completed model

How much Dale Smith likes contests?
I enjoy contests as long as the judges are judging the model to the standards of the competition, not to their own supposed knowledge

And modelling club?
I enjoy modelling clubs as you can get together with people with the same interests

What is your preferred sport?
Sport. I enjoy most sport, but mainly soccer

When you was a child, playing with your friends you was the army man or the pilot?
The pilot

BBQ once or twice a month, depending on the weather

It exists for you an Australian modelling school or not, it is more accurate in the historical research, detailing or painting?
I usually build my kit as an aircraft that I have researched, very rarely straight from the box

What is for you the most important side making models? Painting, scratchbuilding, assembling, sanding or something else?
All of these items all together

Modelling in Italy is in troubles, few young modellers and the same old faces, but probably it is only a passing disease that lasts from about 20 years. It's the same in Australia or modelling has more vitality?
Very much the same is happening here as in the world in general. We need to encourage more younger kids to take an interest in the hobby as there are so many other things kids could be doing in their spare time

Two names of modellers you like in Australia?
James Blackwell for his german armour, Chris Wauchop for his aircraft

Could be useful to build more war museums for the new generations?
Yes, if only from the research side of things

How important are for Dale Smith the associations for the recover and the restoration of historical aircrafts?
Very Important

What kind of skill you'd like to steal to another modeller, and which one?
Chris Wauchops' ability with an airbrush

One that the fit is bad and looks nothing like the real thing

Both. If you look around you can model on a budget, but if you want to spend heaps of money , you can......

How much is important for Dale Smith the historical documentation in a modelling project?
Very Important

How much the hand skill?
Same again as above

With a good skill can someone provide to the lack documentation in model making?
Yes

With a perfect documentation can someone provide to the lack of skill?
No

Enamel or acrylics?
I prefer acrylics. I use mainly Gunze and Tamiya

Did you make pre-shading usually?
Yes, now I do. I didn't in the past

What is your best modelling skill, painting or construction?
Construction

Have you in your library Osprey Aviation books?
In my reference library I have many books, but they are mainly 'Osprey', 'Classic Publications' and also the Stewart Wilson series of books on australian aircraft.

How have been they useful for you?
Very useful in giving pictures and info on the plane I am modelling

What kind of model you'd wish to ask to Santa Klaus?
1/48 Bristol Beaufort, also a Meteor F8

Projects on the workbench?
Projects at the moment are a 1/48 Academy Spit Mk XIVe with the KMC detail set, and an F-4J in RAF colours from the 'Tigermeet' in 1988 with a BB cockpit and the Yellowhammer decals
