The book

The subject reference material was purchased for reference on a Mig-21 'Fishbed J' that is being constructed at this time. The 'Academy' kit that is being used does lack detail in some areas, and it was for that reason that additional info. was sought. " Ace Publications' " earlier editions are excellent, so the money was put down on this one.!! I was not disappointed. The publication is softcover and only of 32 pages, however inside are 3 full pages of line drawings, 4 full pages of colour detail pictures of undercarriage, wheel wells, cockpit and canopy, and 17 colour plates of differing user country camouflage schemes and natural metal finishes. The book also contains 2 detailed photos

of the KM-1M ejection seat as well as 4 full pages of small photos covering most areas of the airframe from front to rear. All the different countries that use the type are covered briefly, as well as modelling information and reference to a number of kits that are available in both 1/72 & 1/48 scale. There is also a chart listing most aftermarket decals and accessories that are available. All photos are labelled in both Polish and English, with a brief summary of the type in english towards the rear of the book. This summary also gives full english details of the black and white line drawings as well as the colour drawings supplied on the inside of the main and rear covers, and the rear cover.-

Conclusion

 

For anyone modelling the 'Academy' , or for that matter any of the model manufacturers Mig-21 kits in any scale, this book is an invaluable reference source. The only drawback I can see with the publication is that the text is mainly in Polish, and if you cannot read Polish, all that valuable written reference goes to waste. Luckily for myself , my neighbours are Polish and could in an emergency, translate some points for me.

Please, Please, Ace Publications have your books printed in english also. Highly Recommended.
