Jerry Scutts non ha bisogno di presentazioni, ma per stima e rispetto le farò ugualmente. Ha lavorato nell'editoria aviatoria sin dal 1960 ed ha scritto più di 40 libri spaziando dagli idrovolanti della Us Navy nella seconda guerra mondiale ai Phantoms in Vietnam dell'USAF. I suoi soggetti preferiti sono la Luftwaffe e l' USAAF nella seconda guerra mondiale. Jerry Scutts è stato un regolare collaboratore della Osprey per la serie Aircraft of the Aces fin dal 1994.

Jerry Scutts I think doesn't need to be introduced, but I'll do it the same just for respect. He has worked in aviation publishing since the 60s and he wrote over 40 books jumping from the Us Navy floatplane fighters in WW II to the USAF Phantoms over the Vietnam. His preferred subjects  are the Luftwaffe and the USAAF in WW II. Jerry Scutts has been a regular contributor to Osprey's Aircraft of the Aces series since 1994.

In netta minoranza durante la loro presenza durata due anni nel deserto occidentale, la stanca manciata di piloti da caccia dello Jagdgeschwader combatterono un' efficace campagna di supporto all' Afrika Korps di Rommel contro le force Inglesi ed Americane. Facendo soprattutto affidamento sul "cavallo di battaglia" dei caccia della Luftwaffe nella Seconda Guerra Mondiale, il Messerschmitt Bf 109, gli assi temprati dalle battaglie usarono le performance superiori dei loro aerei per conseguire un numero incredibile di abbattimenti contro gli Alleati. Oltretutto, una volta respinte dal Nord Africa, queste unità continuarono a combattere contro la RAF e l' USAAF decollando da basi di fortuna situate nell'Italia del Nord. La parte storica del libro è veramente interessante e vitale per il modellista, ogni singolo movimento degli Jagdgeschwader è annotato con estrema precisione. Testimonianze orali, un gran numero di profili a colori (60 profili !!! sì 60 !!!) con un bel trittico dedicato al Bf 109 G6/R6 "13 rosso" del Feldwebel Heinrich Bartels. Una bella sezione è dedicata alla "stella dell' Africa" : Hans-Joachim Marseille, scusatemi ma ho un debole per questo asso! Molto bello da leggere è il terzo capitolo "end of an era" con una buona sezione fotografica ed un utile "order of battle" per i Bf 109F delle Unità in Africa, Sicilia e Grecia. In questo libro ci sono molte e belle fotografie, per esempio guardate le pagine 30, 33, 63, 66 e 72; io ricordo queste, ma ce ne sono tante altre all'interno, basta girare le pagine e guardare. Cosa vi posso dire: procuratevelo ! Il più presto possibile ! Arrivederci alla prossima puntata de "Gli Indimenticabili" !

The book

Totally outnumbered throughout their short two-year sojourn in the Western Desert, the crack fighter pilots of the handful of Jagdgeschwader in-theatre fought an effective campaign in support of Rommel’s Afrika Korps against the British and American forces. Relying almost exclusively on the Luftwaffe’s staple fighter of World War 2, the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the battle-hardened aces used the aircraft’s superior performance to achieve incredible scores against the Allies. Similarly, once pushed out of North Africa, these units continued to take the fight to the RAF and USAAF from makeshift bases in northern Italy. The historical part of the book is really interesting and vital for the modeller, any single move of the Jagdgeschwader are reported with extreme precision. Witness spoke, a great number of color profiles (60 profiles !!! yes 60 !!!) with a beautiful three way drawing about the Bf 109 G6/R6 "Red 13" flown by Feldwebel Heinrich Bartels. A good section is dedicated to the "star of Africa" : Hans-Joachim Marseille, sorry guys but I get nuts for this ace! Very beautiful to read is the chapter three "end of an era" with a good photographic section and a useful "order of battle" for the Bf 109F about the Units in Africa, Sicily and Greece. A lot of beautiful shots are shown in this book, for example see pages 30, 33, 63, 66 and 72; these are the one I remember, but many other are printed inside, just turn the pages and see. What can I say: get it ! As soon as possible ! See you for the next "Unforgettable Title" !

Signed by Chris Davey, an airbrush artist with years of experience who has become Osprey's principal illustrator of RAF aircraft, having produced the profiles for over a dozen books since 1994. He is particularly adept at big aircraft like the Halifax and Sunderland.
