Il libro

Benchè lo Spitfire più conosciuto sia senza dubbio quello degli exploits contro la Luftwaffe durante la Battle of Britain, il suo impiego a guerra avanzata con il Fighter Command su tutti i fronti contro l'Asse fu egualmente importante. Questo volume segnala gli exploits dei piloti che si contrapposero alla marea della Lufwaffe sui fronti dell'Europa Occidentale e del Mediterraneo, a quella Giapponese nell'Oriente, volando sugli Spitfire Mk VIs, VIIs, VIIIs, IXs, XIIs and XIVs. Nomi come Johnnie Johnson, Neville Duke and Donald Kingaby, più una miriade di meno conosciuti piloti Britannici, Polacchi, Canadesi, Americani, Australiani, Cechi, della Francia Libera, Neozelandesi and Norvegiesi, e gli Aerei sono tutti trattati in questa publicazione. Il libro inizia con la necessità della RAF di un "nuovo e più potente Spitfire" ..... così il 12 september 1942 durante i soliti raid diurni sull'Inghilterra della Luftwaffe con lo Ju 86Rs, lo Spitfire Mk IX modificato pilotato da Emanuel Galitzine ruppe quella supremazia aerea. Dal MTO al CBI e dal PTO al ETO . Potreste passare ore per fare la vostra scelta tra le 16 pagine di profili, ed ogni aereo ha la sua storia nelle pagine finali del libro. Molto interessanti sono i capitoli dedicati allo Spitfire contro le bombe volanti V1 e quello sugli assi Australiani di Spitfire 1942-45. Alla fine del libro ci sono tavole comparative tra Spitfire and Fw190A e Bf109G. Bene non posso spiegarvi quanto sia utile e grande questo libro, dovrei avere molto, molto tenpo e spazio a disposizione: l'unica maniera per capire questo "Indimenticabile titolo" è quella di averlo! Quindi quello che vi voglio dire, ragazzi, è che dovete far spazio sugli scaffali della vostra libreria senza ombra di dubbio! Ci sentiamo presto e buona lettura!

The book

Although the Spitfire is undoubtedly best known for its exploits against the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain, its later war service with Fighter Command on all fronts against the Axis aliance was equally as important. This volume features the exploits of pilots who turned the tide against the Lufwaffe on the Western European and Mediterranean fronts, as well as the japanese in the Far East, flying Spitfire Mk VIs, VIIs, VIIIs, IXs, XIIs and XIVs. Names like Johnnie Johnson, Neville Duke and Donald Kingaby, plus a myriad of lesser known British, Polish, Canadian, American, Australian, Czech, Free French, New Zealand and Norvegian pilots, and the Aircraft, are all covered in this publication. The book starts with the need of the RAF of a "new and more potent Spitfire" ..... so on 12th september 1942 during the usual Luftwaffe Ju 86Rs daylight raid against England the modified Mk IX Spitfire flown by Emanuel Galitzine broke that air superiority. From MTO to CBI and from PTO to ETO you can spend hours making your choice in the 16 pages of profiles, and every aircraft has its history in the final pages of the book. Very interesting are the chapters dedicated to Spitfire versus the V1 flying bombs and to the Australian Spitfire aces 1942-45. At the end of the book there is a well done comparative trial between Spitfire and Fw190A or Bf109G. Well I can't tell you how this book is great and useful, it could engage myself for a long long time: the only way to understand this "Unforgettable title" is to have it! So guys what I want to tell you is that this book have to find some room in your shelf, without any doubt! So see you later and good reading!

Firmati da Chris Davey, un artista dell'aerografo con anni di esperienza divenuto uno dei principali illustratori della Osprey di aerei della RAF, ha disegnato i profili di più di una dozzina di libri fin dal 1994. E' particolarmente portato per i grandi aerei come l' Halifax e il Sunderland.

Keith Fretwell è stato un abilissimo artista di aviazione. Ha illustrato numerosi libri per la Osprey Aircraft of the Aces series.

Mark Rolfe è un artista di profili di estremo talento. Ha lavorato su numerosi titoli nelle serie Osprey's Aircraft of the Aces and Combat Aircraft.

The Profiles

Signed by Chris Davey, an airbrush artist with years of experience who has become Osprey's principal illustrator of RAF aircraft, having produced the profiles for over a dozen books since 1994. He is particularly adept at big aircraft like the Halifax and Sunderland.

The late Keith Fretwell was a very skilled aviation artist. He illustrated numerous books in the Osprey Aircraft of the Aces series.  

Mark Rolfe is an extremely talented profile artist. He has worked on a number of titles in Osprey's Aircraft of the Aces and Combat Aircraft series.
